The shelf support will consist of a T, a pipe, and an elbow. The T will be aligned with the flange above, so I need to take the flange diameter into account. Placing all of these pieces on a ruler. With a 6-inch pipe, the assemblage came to 11⅞ inches, so this gives me the maximum shelf width for a 6-inch pipe.
The question now, then, becomes whether a 12-inch-deep shelf is enough. If I use a 16-inch-deep shelf, my leg room diminishes from ≈33 inches to ≈29 inches. According to the Brezlin Custom Furniture website, the chair space should be “20 to 26 inches high, no less than 20 to 24 inches wide, and 12 to 15 inches deep.” Therefore, my 29 inches exceeds expectations.
Now I have to figure out how to calculate height between the shelves. Because of the multiple T connections being used, this could prove problematic.
